The news that Kelly Ripa and Savannah Guthrie had Botox injections recently made headlines. Although women make up the vast majority of Botox patients (around 90%), there has been a recent surge in the popularity of Botox for guys, or “Brotox.”
Nearly 400,000 American men got Botox in 2013, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. When compared to ten years ago, this represents a 310% increase in the number of male patients receiving Botox.
Is the sudden popularity of male Botox because of the confessions of famous guys like Simon Cowell to getting the anti-aging wonder treatment? The stigma associated with guys getting Botox may be fading. The increasing prevalence of men getting Botox treatments removes a previously unacknowledged norm in the realm of maintaining one’s looks.
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons also claimed that in 2014, over 6 million Botox cosmetic treatments were conducted on both men and women across the United States. Growing popularity throughout time suggests that Botox will continue to be widely used.
An increase in male interest in Botox may be attributable to the fact that there is little to no recovery time and extremely little chance of negative side effects.
