Explain the role of a medical esthetician.

By definition, a “medical esthetician” is a medical professional who has completed further education in the field of aesthetic and esthetic medicine. However, cosmetic plastic surgery is outside the scope of esthetic medicine. Rather, it involves noninvasive esthetic procedures like laser hair removal, Botox, IPL photofacial skin rejuvenation, dermal fillers, radiofrequency skin tightening, and many more.

It is possible but not guaranteed that a medical esthetician’s responsibilities will include:

Removal of fine lines and scars

Conceivably retarding the onset of facial and hand/neck sagging

Lightening age spots and closing broken capillaries

Anti-aging properties

Tattoo removal with laser technology

In most cases, a medical esthetician will not see patients who are unwell. These patients seek out esthetic medicine services like Botox, laser hair removal, and the like to enhance their appearance. But a medical esthetician may work with patients who have experienced pain or who have been hospitalized. Scars from a fire, an accident, an injury, etc., can be filled or treated in this way.

Any of the following procedures may be within the scope of practice for a medical esthetician.

The toxin produced by the bacterium Botrytis (Botox cosmetic)

Injections of dermal fillers (soft tissue fillers)

The Use of Chemical Peels

Eliminating Cellulite

Eliminating hair with a laser device
