  • by

Wow! According to the health and wellness website RealSelf, over 45 million nonsurgical treatments were looked into in 2017.

This is great news if you are thinking about a career in medical aesthetics since it means you will be joining a profession that is expanding inside a sector that is expanding.

Medical Aesthetics Is A Growing Sector

The health and beauty sector is booming, that much is certain. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) just published its industry data for 2017. The group discovered that the most popular therapies in 2017 were:

  • Botulinum toxin Type A (Botox): 7,230,967 treatments

  • Soft tissue fillers (Restylane®, Perlane® and Juvederm®): 2,691,265

  • Chemical peels: 1,376,703

  • Laser hair removal: 1,086,830

Additionally, the ASPS discovered that over 15.7 million cosmetic treatments were carried out in the previous year, a 2% increase from 2016 and a staggering 186% growth since 2000!

Why Are Nonsurgical Procedures Increasing?

Treatments like Botox, fillers, and laser hair removal are becoming more popular for a number of reasons. The top four are as follows:

  • Additional “fun money”. We now have more spare income than we did in the past, so we spend it on things like medical and aesthetic procedures.

  • An aging population. Nearly half of the patients receiving medical aesthetics treatments are baby boomers. When it comes to looking young and attractive, quick fixes like Botox, laser hair removal, and skin tightening are available.

  • Technological advances in lasers. The more time and experience you have, as in any industry, the more you may refine your good or service. These therapies get better as more is discovered about laser technology.

  • Greater awareness of beauty. The emphasis on appearance and meeting beauty standards has increased among millennials. Because celebrities post flawless photographs, customers usually ask for larger lips, contoured bodies, and a glowing appearance.
